Frequently Asked Questions
For Lenders
Listing items & earning
How do security deposits work?
When a renter books your item, a deposit is charged to their card and held until the rental is returned in good condition. If there's damage, you can file a claim within 24 hours of return.
What happens if my item is damaged?
File a damage report through your dashboard within 24 hours of return. Vaultly will review the claim and release the held deposit to you if the claim is valid.
How do I get paid?
Earnings are deposited to your account after the rental period ends and no damage claim is filed. Payouts process within 2–3 business days.
Can I set my own availability?
Yes — your listing includes an availability calendar you control. Block dates you need the item back, and renters can only book open windows.
What's the 15% platform fee?
Vaultly deducts a 15% fee from each rental to cover payment processing, deposit handling, and platform support. You keep 85% of every rental.

Renting & payments
How do I rent an item?
Search for what you need, pick available dates, and check out securely. The owner gets notified and confirms the pickup or delivery details.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe with bank-level encryption. Your card is never stored on Vaultly's servers.
What if the item isn't as described?
Contact us within 2 hours of pickup if an item doesn't match its listing. We'll work with the owner to resolve the issue or refund your rental.
How do deposits work for renters?
A security deposit is charged when you book and held — not collected — until the item is returned. If you return it in good condition, the hold is released within 2 business days.
Can I cancel a booking?
Cancellations made 24+ hours before pickup are fully refunded. Cancellations within 24 hours may be subject to a one-day rental fee.
